Living Fearless

DAY 4 OF 5

Power through Self-Discipline

Fear starts as a thought and most of our fears really are an illusion that can be tied to a lack of understanding. If we will take time to understand the fear that’s holding us back, we will get an idea whether it is reasonable, or not. If it’s an empty fear with no depth we can cast it out and move forward.

However, if it is a reasonable fear we have the opportunity to become wiser about the situation. Fear can alert our senses. We can have a reverence for the situation. Seeking to understand everything about our fear gives us the ability to not give it power, but to use its power.

Acts 1:8 says we receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon us. When we receive that power the enemy is powerless. He seeks to use distraction, discouragement, and doubt to trick us into thinking we are powerless. But in 2 Timothy it shows us that the Spirit we receive gives us power, love, and self-discipline.

So let’s start with self-discipline. Though it may not be fun, self-discipline produces strength within us. By taking the time and using self-discipline to devote ourselves to prayer and growing in our relationship with God we get a deeper revelation of His love. As we receive His love, we can then activate the power of the Holy Spirit Paul speaks about.

When our faith increases, when we get back to the revelation of how awesome our God is, doubts, discouragements, and fears all seem so small.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I enter Your presence today with gratitude. Thank You for Your Holy Spirit. I ask to receive today a new level of self-discipline. I receive Your love and I receive Your power. Help me to be discerning and dissect the fears in my life to see if they are rational. I cast all illusions to You and ask that You give me the awareness to understand the path You are laying out before me. Thank You for the strength You've offered to overcome the opposition I am facing and the encouragement to press on, whatever comes along. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
