Daily Bible Reading - July 2020 God's Life-Giving Word of PromiseSample

July 25
Introduction
In today’s reading, the Jews destroy their enemies, along with Haman’s ten sons, in the capital city, Susa, and throughout all the provinces.
Scripture Reading
Esther 9:1-19
Today’s Key Verse: Esther 9:16a
The Jews in the provinces also organized and defended themselves.
Reflect
What did Esther ask the king to do with the bodies of Haman’s sons? What message would such a public display have conveyed? In today’s reading, verse 15 records that the Jews killed their enemies but “did no looting,” an indication that they were fighting for survival and not for riches or material gain. Are there people today who are engaged in struggles for survival?
Pray
God of grace and mercy, you alone are God and worthy of praise. You are indeed mighty, and I am in awe of your wondrous deeds. Thank you, Lord God, for your saving love. Amen.
Prayer Concern
Those facing hardships and struggling to survive.
Tomorrow’s Reading
Esther 9:20-32: The Festival of Purim is celebrated.
