Friendship With GodSample
Day 4 - Disappointment with God
Disappointment is such a big deal. Some disappointments are big and can wreck us if we let them. Other disappointments are small and it feels like we are experiencing death by a thousand paper cuts.
Disappointment is one of those things that if we don't process it, it eventually festers and creates a dissatisfaction within us. This will eventually lead to us doubting God’s goodness. If we don’t believe He is good, what is the point of choosing His way over the world’s way.
Through wrestling with disappointment, we begin to see that His goodness and love sometimes look different than our own. Again, it goes back to the idea that He exists in another plane that we simply can’t comprehend. Consider for a moment Jesus’ response to finding out that His friend Lazarus was sick. John tells us that when Jesus heard that Lazarus was sick, because He loved him and his sisters so much, He waited for two days before leaving. WHAT?!
If you read the rest of the story, you will see that Jesus revealed to them far more with Lazarus dying and being raised than He could have if He had simply healed Him. Sometimes things in us have to die and that isn’t a pleasant thing to choose. But He promises to finish in us that which He started!
Today, consider where you’re disappointed with God. Where have you felt like He hasn’t shown up? Where is your heart sick with pain? Invite Him into those places and begin to process them.
About this Plan
Friendship with God is all about growing your relationship with God. Throughout scripture God has many names. Comforter, Lord, Protector, Provider and on. One of the things He called Himself that really hit me hard was that He called Himself my friend. What could life look like if we live like God was actually our friend? This changed my life and I hope it will change yours as well!
