DISTRACTED FROM GOD’S VOICE
Before we can ever have a Peter moment on the rooftop, we have to recognize God calling us to listen closely beyond the noise of our everyday lives. Isn’t it interesting that Peter was praying and fasting when the vision God sent him, appeared? We live in the digital era and we have so many options, interruptions and distractions that make it very difficult to hear God, even when He’s speaking loudly to us. Before Peter was ever able to hear the revelation God sent him, he had to remove the noise that was preventing God’s message from rooting in his heart.
Can you think of a time God was calling and yet you simply didn’t hear Him? In hindsight, you recognize He was answering the very thing you prayed for, but because of distraction you may have thought He was simply not responding.
The Christian concern in today’s culture is if we get too comfortable in what we know, we may quit hungering for what we don’t. The things of God that we are comfortable sharing become our go-to for wisdom, knowledge and understanding, but often the biggest changes God wants to make in our lives are the changes we have yet to see coming. Sometimes God wants to 180 our thinking! He wants to show us that not only are we distracted, but the very thing we put our confidence in often is counter-intuitive to the message He is trying to place on our hearts.
