The Neighbourhood as Told by MatthewSample
As followers of Jesus, who are we and what are we called to do? The book of Matthew sums this up well explaining we are to "...Go to the lost, confused people right here in the neighbourhood. Tell them that the kingdom is here...’ (Matthew 10:6 The Message) It is our responsibility as followers of Christ to proclaim God’s good news to the lost.
Consider for a moment, your salvation story and how you came to know Christ. Maybe you grew up in a Christian home, or maybe you have just recently met God. No matter the circumstance, at some point in time, your life was transformed through the good news of Christ.
When my dad was in his late twenties, my uncle invited him along to church and soon after, he gave his life to Christ and was never the same again. I am eternally grateful that my uncle saw my dad, who was so lost, and took a step of faith to share with him the good news of Jesus. My uncle’s decision to step out and be obedient to God changed the trajectory of, not only my dad’s life, but of our whole family’s, as we now live out our faith in Jesus.
The Bible says that even the smallest steps of faith can move mountains. As we continue being obedient to God and His word, He can do an incredible work through us to reach the lost. We all know someone who is lost, needy or broken: a co-worker, a family member or a friend. But the good news is, we have the answer to fulfill their needs, Jesus. I encourage you today to step out in faith, pray for someone or share your own testimony of God’s goodness in your life.
Prayer: God, thank You for Your word, and that I can learn so much about You, and who You have called me to be. Lord, please help me to step out in faith, to proclaim Your goodness to the lost. Give me wisdom as I minister Your word to the lost, needy and broken. Thank You Lord, that You are the one who truly fills my every need. I love You. In Jesus name, Amen.
