Biblical Foundation for Raising SupportSample

Recognizing Who Really Gives Money and Courage
Lesson:
When we consider support raising, we must always remember that God is the One who is both the source of our support and also the One who gives the courage to find it. If we were to read the entire book of Nehemiah, we can see how many times he prayed to the Lord:
- He started the entire mission with prayer (1:4-11).
- He asked for wisdom in his response to the king (2:4).
- He prayed for protection and then acted on that prayer by posting guards on the wall (4:4,9).
- He prayed for a blessing for being righteous (5:19).
- He asked for focus and the strength to withstand those that were working against him (6:9).
- He prayed right in the middle of his thought (6:14).
- He prayed for God to take care of those that didn’t follow the right path (13:29).
- And in Nehemiah 13, he prayed repeatedly that God would remember him for his actions (13: 14, 22, 31).
Without question, he was a man of prayer. The Lord says, “Every animal of the forest is mine, and the cattle on a thousand hills” (Psalm 50:10). Nehemiah understood, as should we, that our Father provides. We need to be bathing all of our meetings, calls, and asks in prayer to ensure that we are relying on the real source of all good things.
Reflection:
Have I bathed my support raising process in prayer? What are verses that remind me of God’s ability to provide?
