[2020 Vision] Rest-olutions and Resolutions to Live by in 2020Sample
Rest-olutions and Resolutions
Resolutions are pretty predictable. Look at the top 10 resolutions for 2020 and see if any of these surprise you: exercise more, lose weight, get organized, learn a new skill or hobby, live life to the fullest, save more money, quit smoking, spend more time with family and friends, travel more, and read more. These are very predictable things to do. But what we're putting before ourselves is this: not things to do, but people to be.
Here is what I’ve found in my life: I'm inspired by things I can be. I'm often weighed down with the things I’ve got to do. If I pay attention to what I want to be, instead of worrying about what I have to do, then I’ve got some wind in my sails. I don't need another thing to do. I want to grow in who I am in Christ and let the things I do flow from that.
This year, 2020, is the only year you will experience a double digit year of the same number. You were not here for 1919 and you will not be here for 2121. So, for 2020, let’s step into this decade, year, month, week, and day, looking at Scriptures that are chapter 20, verse 20.
Ezekiel 20:20 says, “Keep my Sabbath holy and this will be a sign between you and Me so that you may know that I am the Lord Your God.” God is saying to us, “I want you to be people who have a Sabbath heart. I want you to rest. Instead of doing more, I actually want you to do less.”
As we step out in 2020, consider two rest-olutions. First, “I will rest in God’s provision, realizing my need.” Second, “I will rest in knowing God.” We are going to trust God and who He is, and in His provision for our need.
Besides rest-olutions, we are going to make some resolutions, based on Acts 20:20. We will unpack that verse further, but for now, the resolutions are to humbly serve others, to be courageous in sharing our faith, and to be teachable.
This year can be amazing. You can be humble. You can be courageous. You can be a person who is teachable.
God, give us wisdom. Give us wisdom in this chapter of our life. We love You. We want to be in You. Let us truly grow spiritually this year.
