Daily Bible Reading - October 2020: God’s Life-Giving Word of Justice and PeaceSample
October 17
Introduction
Today’s reading begins with a catalog of the people’s sins. The people confess their sin, and the LORD promises to rescue them.
Scripture Reading
Isaiah 59:1-21
Today’s Key Verse: Isaiah 59:21a
[The LORD says:] “And I make a covenant with you: I have given you my power and my teachings to be yours forever.”
Reflect
What sins does the prophet bring to the people’s attention (verses 1-8)? How do the people respond (verse 9-11)? What do the people confess (verses 12-15)? Reread verse 21. What does it mean to you to be in a covenant relationship with God? According to verse 21, what does God require?
Pray
Lord God, you have given us your teachings. Help me to obey you and teach others about you and your everlasting love. Reign in my heart forever. Amen.
Prayer Concern
Those who mentor others in faith
Tomorrow’s Reading
Jeremiah 1:1-19: God calls Jeremiah to be a prophet.
