Practice Meditating on God’s Word

DAY 5 OF 7

LEARN the Truth

Proverbs challenges us to think of our heart as a treasure chest – for storing up God’s commands. Living in a remote part of Asia, my brother had to learn the art of storing; he preserved 36 bottles of tomatoes so that his family could have tomato pasta through the winter!

In our meditation journey, we’ve begun to ask the LORD to help us LOOK for treasure and TURN our hearts to Him. We so often walk away from Bible-reading at this point, but God commands us to go deeper—to literally, “treasure up” this truth within us.

Why? We need to store up God’s truth within us so that we have it with us in the ‘winter’ - when we need it. That’s why memorising God’s word is so integral to the vitality of our walk with the Lord.

The Bible offers many creative ways of doing this; through song, writing on doorframes, memory aids, and acrostics. Screenshots, texting yourself or post-it notes; do whatever it takes to store that truth so you can worship and obey God throughout your day.

Learn | ‘In the beginning, God...’ is a simple but profound statement to remember. Whenever you notice God’s creation – when you feel the warmth of the sun, smell a flower, see the sky, stroke the soft fur of a pet - worship God that he created it all.
