The Ways of Prosperity

DAY 5 OF 7

God Wants You to Prosper Professionally

Jesus spent a lot of his life in a professional capacity. Not only did God see it fit for Jesus to work as a carpenter, but in ministry as well. Jesus said in John 5:17 “My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I too am working.” To be able to work is a gift of God and is one way we imitate His ideas about how to achieve a fully prospering soul.

Many times, our culture teaches us to either overwork or to resent work. But let’s consider God’s purpose and promises for the workplace. He positions us with others to be more productive, creative, and supportive. A healthy workplace has been shown to have many benefits including creating connections, getting new opportunities, accessing a support network, feeling a sense of pride and accomplishment in giving back, continued opportunities for learning and growth, and feeling we are a part of something bigger than ourselves.

We are wired to desire work that is fulfilling, and that endures beyond our generation. God wants us to thrive in our workplaces. He wants us to achieve positions of influence and opportunity. We will function at our best when our work ethic reflects this. Our workplace relationships are vital to our success and growth in our field of choice. The cultivation of those relationships is our divine invitation.

The biblical basis for gaining community in the workplace is strong. For example, Jesus could have gone about the Father’s business on His own instead of including the disciples. The disciples were also told to go out two by two when they worked to further the kingdom. Joseph was rescued from prison because he made a friend in prison who provided a professional connection to Pharaoh.

About this Plan

The Ways of Prosperity

In 3 John 1:2 we see that God wants us to live fully in the prosperity that only comes from knowing and imitating Him. This encompasses 7 areas of life, including our relationships, spirituality, health, and career. When we grow or struggle in one area, we impact the rest. As we focus on prospering in the ways God designed, we get to know more about Him and His heart!
