Rise Up & Stand Firm—A Study of 1 Peter (Part 4)Sample

Armed With the Mind of Christ
I’m so thankful you’ve made it this far. Only five more days to go! Stay engaged to the end with your note-taking observations. I am praying for your growth and believing you’ll gain insight from all your in-depth time in God’s Word.
Pray:
Holy Spirit, thank You for Your living Word. Please teach me from it today.
Today’s Goal:
Grow in our knowledge of God and grasp and live from the truth taught in Scripture.
Study Tip:
I recommend you start by reading all of 1 Peter 4 to get a broad overview of this chapter before you begin mining through verses 1-6.
Read and Write:
Before we dive into studying the beginning of 1 Peter 4, be sure to read over the last portion of 1 Peter 3. This will help us gain a fuller context and see the connection to 1 Peter 4:1’s kickoff word, “Therefore.”
- List the main themes or subjects emphasized in today’s text.
- Write a summary to encompass the main message of 1 Peter 4:1-6.
- Make a list (according to 1 Peter 4:3-4) of what the ungodly do.
Reflect:
- What attitude or mindset did Christ have when He suffered unjustly?
- How does taking on this mindset “arm” or equip us in our suffering?
- Why would our suffering help us overcome personal sin?
- Bible commentators have different interpretations for the meaning of the “dead” in verse six. The main theories are: The dead are Christians who had recently passed away, those “spiritually” dead, or all the physically dead before the coming of Christ. At any rate, Peter’s main point stands: The Gospel was and is being preached throughout human history, and judgment is coming for all humanity. With this in mind, based on verses five and six, what is Peter’s encouragement to the reader?
Apply:
- Based on today’s lesson, how will you rise up and stand firm?
