Feeling Ordinary? Sample
Ordinary Is How God Ordinarily Works
I bet you’d love to make some extraordinary changes in your life. Maybe to unconditionally love the people in your family, even that sibling who never sees eye to eye with you. Or maybe you want to trust God so much that you hold on to your peace no matter what happens. The kind of faith that says to sickness, to cancer, or the latest political mess, “God knows about this. God’s got this. I’m good.” Or maybe you want to put God first in your budget for the first time. Or forgive the one who abused you so many years ago. Or be courageous enough to share your faith with an old friend. These are all extraordinary acts of faith!
But do you know how God tends to do extraordinary things in our lives? Through ordinary stuff. Like going to church. Like thoughtfully praying the Lord’s Prayer. Like reading (and truly thinking about) a daily devotion. Like asking good questions and listening to people’s answers. Just like the tallest tree became extraordinary through thousands of ordinary days and hundreds of ordinary rain showers, God loves to use simple, easy-to-miss habits to shape us into Christ-like people.
“[The kingdom of God] is like a mustard seed, which is the smallest of all seeds on earth. Yet when planted, it grows and becomes the largest of all garden plants, with such big branches that the birds can perch in its shade” (Mark 4:31,32).
So don’t miss the power of the ordinary. Ordinary is how God ordinarily works.
