Hallow Him: Halloween & Everyday

DAY 2 OF 3

Hallow Him- Seek His Will.

1 Samuel 30:3-8 (NLT)

When David and his men saw the ruins and realized what had happened to their families, they wept until they could weep no more.  David’s two wives, Ahinoam from Jezreel and Abigail, the widow of Nabal from Carmel, were among those captured. David was now in great danger because all his men were very bitter about losing their sons and daughters, and they began to talk of stoning him. But David found strength in the Lord his God. Then he said to Abiathar the priest, “Bring me the ephod!” So Abiathar brought it.

Then David asked the LORD, “Should I chase after this band of raiders? Will I catch them?” And the LORD told him, “Yes, go after them. You will surely recover everything that was taken from you!”

It would have been reasonable for David to not seek God’s will concerning the situation he was faced with. Why wouldn’t God want him to rescue his children, wives, and fight the enemy? He could have assumed it was God’s will for him to fight back without consulting God. He was also under pressure; his men spoke of stoning him. He could have acted out of fear for his life and his family’s life. Yet, he sought God.

Do you turn off your lights on Halloween nights and refuse to do anything out of fear? Please take a moment, and remember that our decisions must not be based on fear. We must have Biblical reasons to support our decisions. Fear prevents us from walking in love and doing God’s perfect will.

I have not participated in Halloween because I have been getting a “no” from the Word; not because I am afraid of what the enemy can do. Last year, two scriptures were impressed on my heart regarding Halloween- 1 Corinthians 8:9 and Ephesians 4:27.

1 Corinthians 8:9 (NIV) says, “But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumbling block to them that are weak.”

Ephesians 4:27 (NIV) says, “and do not give the devil a foothold”

Yet, I went back to God again this year because David’s life taught me the importance of going back to God to ask- “What are you saying about this battle, this season?”. We must always go back to God about this day, week, or year. God has different strategies for helping us win. Today, it may be the weapon of praise. Another time, He may ask you to confess scriptures or simply give thanks.

God is constantly revealing His ways to us. We must consistently go to God and ask for His Will each time. Seeking God concerning every situation birth love-centered decisions instead of fear-based decisions.

When we consult God like David, it shows we are after God’s heart. It shows we desire God’s perfect will and God will faithfully answer us just like He answered David. God does not show favoritism (Acts 10:34-35). If we do what David did, we will also get results.

Are you afraid or under pressure to participate in Halloween? Are you struggling with a parenting or life decision? Seek God. Pray for wisdom to know just what to do (James 1:5). Pick up your Bible and ask God to speak to you. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you decide. He is our helper. Go to God with an open heart and He will answer you (Jeremiah 33:3).
