Money often gets a bad rap. It can be used to accomplish great things on earth and for God’s Kingdom. Money isn’t bad. However, it makes a terrible master.
In this passage, Jesus is addressing the Pharisees. They claimed to love God but they also loved money. Jesus says we can’t love both. Wealth promises power and control, but rarely delivers. It is a great deceiver. No amount of money can provide true peace or eternal life.
Which is your master - God or money? A few quick questions to determine if money is your master: (1) Do you worry about it frequently? (2) Do you give up doing what you should do in order to make more money? (3) Is it hard for you to give money away? (4) Are you in debt?
How much greater is it to let God be our master?

About this Plan

Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness again, but will have the light of life.” In this daily Bible reading plan, Illuminate, we study the teachings of Jesus found in the Gospel of Luke chapters 12-17. In these passages of Scripture, Jesus sheds light on the kingdom of God and guides us to live our lives in light of eternity.
