Thanksgiving Encouragement for MomsSample
The Grateful Mama
By Rae-Ellen Sanders
Don’t you just love this wonderful time of year? I adore all the activities that go with it, including warm apple cider, pumpkin pie, sweaters, boots, and warm, cozy fires! I also love the family time that the Thanksgiving holiday creates, and the time purposely is taken to reflect on all that we are thankful for. As women of God, we know that having a grateful heart empowers us to be joyful and content regardless of our circumstances. However, many mamas find it difficult to be grateful when things don’t go as they have planned or when the busyness and demands of the season crowd their thinking. Joyce Meyer says, “When we pause to acknowledge His blessings, it restores us to a state of spiritual peace.” Paul also exhorts us to have this peace in Philippians 4:6-7:
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
As we present our requests to God, start every prayer with Thanksgiving. If you can’t think of things to be thankful for, stop, and meditate on God’s love for you. You already know how much you are loved, but if you need a gentle reminder, do a word search on “love” in a Bible app. You’ll be in awe of how much Jesus truly loves you! Think of your salvation story and how God wooed you and forgave your sins. Think about the plans, the future, and the hope that the Lord has for your life. Think about how others have blessed you. Think of the miracle of your children and the beauty of your marriage. As your list grows and you continue to be more and more
thankful, let gratitude become the foundation of your prayer life!
As we continue our devotions on Thanksgiving, we hope you feel inspired to praise the Lord for all He has done. Live life aware and amazed! Glorify God, when praise is due!
Thankful for you,
