Affair Prevention in MarriageSample
Most people do not walk out of the door one morning and say, “I think I will begin an affair today.” It's little steps in the wrong direction that kill us. Kristi was in a bad place and instead of looking to Christ, to Adam, and to her family, she put on blinders and kept taking steps away from them.
Kristi talks about our spiritual enemy that seems to know our most vulnerable weaknesses. 1 Peter describes the enemy as a devouring lion, looking for prey. This is just like with Kristi, the enemy sees our discontent and our detachment from Christ; which make us easy prey.
But no matter how far we go in the wrong direction, it is never too late to do a 180 and start walking in the other direction. When we do, we will find our Heavenly Father running towards us with open arms.
Some say that it’s like having blinders on. That the baby steps toward an affair didn’t seem like a big deal, because they were not paying as much attention to their spouse and family, but focusing attention to going their own direction. Watching our influences, guarding our heart; seeking God first will guide us back in the right direction, and keep us valuing our marriage the way God does.
After you watch the video, talk about the following questions.
- What are little steps in the wrong direction that you see others make?
- Where are you vulnerable?
- What safeguards can you put into place to protect yourself and your marriage from these vulnerabilities?
- Is there anything you can do to change how much God loves you? (The answer is no!) What does that mean to you in seeking Him in your life and in your marriage?
In answering those questions, what did you learn both as individuals and as a couple? What is a good next step for the two of you from what you learned?
