Get Back to You

DAY 3 OF 5

DAY 3: Who You Are

I’ve gone through quite a few phases in my life. I’ve been sporty, country, pop and everything in between. With each of these . . . experiments, what I was really trying to do was find myself. What did I love? What reflected my personality, values and identity? Who was I?

So often, we look to our roles, responsibilities and relationships to define who we are. If our identity isn’t found in those things, then where is it found? What makes up who we are? What are the sources of our identity? Which ones are healthy and which ones are harmful?

Other times in life, we look to others to tell us who we are. We define ourselves in response to the people and world around us. The only problem is that you and I are so much more than that. You were more before those roles became a part of your life, and you are more while you have those titles, and you are more even if or when those labels change.

It’s an incredible identity shift when you remember you’re God’s beautiful creation. So, when you’re feeling like a failure or fraud or just flawed, remember that God made you, and He doesn’t make mistakes.

He created you on purpose and with a purpose. God didn’t need anything else in the world, and yet He thought of you. He wanted you, He planned you, and He created you. And He doesn’t just love you—He also likes you and even enjoys you.

Reflect:

God created you. You were wonderfully made. How does that make you feel? Does it change how you view yourself when you remember that you’re God’s beautiful creation?

Spend some time in prayer asking God to help you learn to not only remember His love for you, but to actually feel it—even in the midst of the chaos in your life.
