Let's Go Over to the Other SideSample
When we sense the call of God, new seasons are welcomed with optimism and hope, yet can prove to be some of the most challenging seasons of our lives. We hit sudden storms and are faced with fears and an overwhelming sense of drowning in unknown waters. In these moments, we can sometimes brace ourselves for unexpected outcomes. In Luke chapter 8, we see that the disciples found themselves in a similar situation as they crossed the Sea of Galilee. Their boat was hit by a strong storm and they were quick to fear for their lives. Although they were traveling with Jesus and he had promised to take them to the other side, the strength of the storm distracted from the promise. In their moment of crisis, instead of holding tight to Jesus’ promise that he’d get them to the other side, they let themselves become overwhelmed by the strength of the storm. When God calls us to do something, we cannot expect a smooth and storm-free journey. However, we can hold onto the fact that he will be in the boat with us every step of the way.
Questions
Have you felt overwhelmed by a storm or circumstance in your life?
Even though Jesus promised the disciples he’d get them to the other side of the lake, in the middle of the storm they felt that they weren’t going to make it. Have you ever felt this way?
