Thrive in the City by Living Into the Great StorySample
Living as Walking Cathedrals
I once had the privilege of listening to Handel’s Messiah in Christ Church cathedral in Dublin, Ireland. The experience was beyond sublime. Cathedrals are places of sanctuary, safety, beauty, and where God’s presence is on full display, inviting whoever is present to worship their Creator. It’s hard to know if Jesus would have ever wanted massive cathedrals to be built as the means of connecting with God, just like it’s hard to fathom why Jesus would entrust his mission to such imperfect beings like us. But the vision and intention behind why God created us, and why cathedrals were built is clear—that both would display God’s presence. As God’s image bearer, you represent God’s cathedral to the world.
The great invitation is that you get to practice living as a walking cathedral. It’s not a performance, which frees you to experiment and learn what resonates with how God has uniquely designed you. The quest Jesus invites you into is the abundant life and He promises to be with you every step of the way.
The Church today is divided on so many levels due to various doctrines, political persuasions, and cultural differences. However, the mission of God is like a symphony where wind and stringed instruments represent the unity and diversity of people with varying gifts, cultures, and personalities. Together, under the direction of the Spirit, the Church plays the various notes of the gospel to create music so beautiful that it changes the atmosphere, draws people in, and transforms the soul.
God sent Jesus into the world for the life of the world. Jesus now sends you into the world for the life of the world so that humankind might flourish in right relationship with God, with each other, within themselves, and with the created order.
May you live into His great story for a lifetime.
Take a moment with God.
