Come to the Table: A Special Needs DevotionalSample

Why Did This Happen To Me and My Loved One?
I know I asked the question, ‘Why my son?’ when he was first diagnosed with a life-threatening illness and then again when we first heard the word Autism. While we are not told in the Bible the thoughts of Mephibosheth’s mother, I wonder if she asked a similar question. Why did he have to suffer from a disability? A similar question was asked by Paul in Romans, but from a different perspective. He asked, “Does the clay have a right to say to the Potter, 'Why have you made me thus?' ” Then he reminds us that the Potter is the one that makes some vessels for honor and others for common use. God allowed Mephibosheth to live a life with a disability, but He certainly had a purpose and a plan for him.
