New Year Devotional: Selah Compassion ConversationsSample
Reframing Our Vision
Then the LORD said to me, “Write my answer plainly on tablets so that a runner can carry the correct message to others.”
—Habakkuk 2:2
Selah
We have officially started a new year!
The word “Selah” throughout scripture is used as an exclamation mark at the end of a verse to help us pause and reflect. As we take time to look back at the year passing by, we want to invite you on a devotional journey about justice and moving with compassion.
Every year we sit at the precipice of change, as the clock ticks over from one year to the next and there is a moment that challenges us all.
The question often comes: what next?
As we take time to talk through New Year resolutions, it is now time to reflect and pray about our vision for the coming year and its impact in the area of justice.
What is the motivating thought behind the impact of your life?
This could be recorded in the form of a manifesto—a list of values and vision that sets your course for the coming years. One of the minor prophets Habakkuk, recalled this need for clarity back in 612 BC, to write our answer plainly.
Reflection Question:
If you were to write a vision statement this coming year, what would be some of the values you would like to focus on?
Prayer:
Dear Jesus,
As we reflect on the steps you walked with compassion, through your earthly days, may we also remember to frame our values by yours. Help us to reframe our values and vision for the coming season to reflect on those who are facing grave injustice. Help us to gain your insight and perspective over our own.
Amen
