Real Hope: Reset

DAY 4 OF 5

The Music Of Reset

The idea of reset usually means to go back to the beginning and start again. However, in learning the cello, I’ve learned a different sort of reset. My teacher has shown me the places within the piece where I’m to ‘reset’. This doesn’t mean I’m to go back to the beginning but it’s a reminder that at this point in the piece the composer wants me to take the time indicated by a small squiggle to take a breath, reposition my bow and sense the readiness of my body to continue.

This reset is not where I put aside what I’ve already played or forget what has come before. The reset allows the melody of what has been played and the rhythm to settle in the muscle memory of my arms, and the vibration of the tones to settle in the memory of the timber of the cello. I will hear the notes when I come to this composition again, I will know the action I need to bow the rhythm, and the cello will resonate with a richer timbre and resonance.

The people of God in the Bible and many faith-filled people through the generations have known how to reset in life. Joshua is one who used moments in his adventure of faith to ‘reset’ by taking a breath, remembering with thanks the ways he had seen God at work, allowing the words God had given him to vibrate in his life and throughout a nation.

As you take time to reset, allow yourself to breathe and remember. Find meaningful memories and, with thankfulness, ready your heart to continue. Trust that God is making your life resonate with His love.

About this Plan

Real Hope: Reset

This past year has been a year not to be forgotten and although many are looking forward to it being over, it is not a year to be unwritten. Let's not forget all we have been through and all that God has done.
