The Missing Link: From Doubt to HopeSample
Day 2: Truth
I never planned to fall into the pit of doubt and despair. I don’t think anyone does. But when I did, I found that getting out wasn’t as easy as just saying, "Let me out!" There was a barrier that I felt, but could not describe, until God placed this song in my spirit for days on end. You may know it, and if you do, I want you to read each word as if God is speaking directly to you.
What a friend we have in Jesus,
All our sins and griefs to bear.
And what a privilege to carry,
Everything to God in prayer.
Oh, what peace we often forfeit,
Oh, what needless pain we bear.
All because we do not carry,
Everything to God in prayer.
Have we trials and temptations?
Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged,
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a friend so faithful,
Who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness
Take it to the Lord in prayer
I remember singing the song and grabbing my phone so that I could read each word. As I did, the lump that formed in my throat was an indication that I was becoming aware of a truth that had not been fully revealed to my soul until that moment.
It was the very truth I needed to go from doubt to hope. It was the truth about the nature of God.
God’s very nature is to remove the burdens and worries from me and take them on as his own. It is to give me hope and a future. The revealed truth of the nature God was the missing link to me going from doubt to hope. When I know I have someone in my corner that is for me and will carry these things for me, I can look toward the future with anticipation. This song allowed me to embrace the nature of the one who calls me friend and who cares about my very existence.
He is a God whose nature is reflected in goodness, whose passion is shown through his sacrifice, and whose love is revealed by how much he cares. The TRUTH is the missing link we need to go from doubt to hope.
What truth about God needs to be applied to the area in your life, situation, or circumstance that has been occupied by fear? I encourage you to write it down then cross it out, replacing it with the TRUTH, and watch as you begin to move
