Open Hearts & Open Homes Sample

Day 4
Written by Ps. Melissa Maher
Am I Gifted?
Read
Romans 12:6-8
Reflect
Is hospitality a gift? What do I do if it's not my gift? As Scripture says, we have all been given gifts that we should focus on and grow in for the glory of God, but that doesn't mean we should ignore those areas we aren't gifted in! God wants us to open our hearts and our homes to people whether we are gifted in this area, or not.
So what do you do if showing hospitality does not come easily? You learn. You practice. You grow in it deliberately. You watch those who are gifted in it and ask for help. I am definitely not gifted in this area. My heart is there, but cooking and socialising has never come easily. But over time, the Holy Spirit has taught me.
Here are some things He has shown me.
- Be yourself (Eph 2:10)
- Prepare (John 14:1-3)
- Get ideas from those who are gifted, allow yourself to be mentored in this area (Heb 10:24, 1 Thess 5:11)
- Do it in His strength (Phil 4:13)
- Seek God for the spiritual reason for hospitality. It's not just about food and environment, but how can your guest leave feeling encouraged in the Lord!
Respond
If I am gifted in the area of hospitality, how does God want me to use my gift?
If I don't feel gifted in this area, how could I develop in it?
