Life On MissionSample
I’ve had so many jobs it is hard to keep track. For one job I drove an old diesel pickup truck around town. It was really loud and had a radio stuck on the local country station. This was back before the banjo was cool. I found myself out of town and the truck was almost out of fuel. I pulled into a gas station and filled it up, both tanks. While driving home, the truck started to sound funny and it eventually stalled, so I had to radio the warehouse. I sat in the truck and waited for the company mechanic to arrive. He diagnosed the problem in just moments. I filled the diesel truck up with regular gas. Yup, I’m that guy. The engine was created to run on diesel and not regular gas.
In the same way, we were created to be fueled by something. If God made you and knows you like we know he does, then He created us to require a certain power source too. Our pain, discouragement and frustration come when we try to operate by any power source other than the one God has required for us. You weren’t created to run on the applause of men, the approval of others, addictions, greed or pure human effort. You and I were created to be fueled by the Holy Spirit; any other source is harmful and destructive.
What are some of the things that fuel you?
What things motivate you in your life?
What are the things that make you resilient and strong?
What do you run to when things get desperate?
Your list isn’t different than most everyone else; you’re not alone. There are many factors that fuel us but only one truly sustains us. Ask God to expose those things that fuel you and replace those motivations with more of God’s Spirit.

About this Plan
Welcome to the Life on Mission devotional. We can often get overwhelmed with the demands of life and chaos of our world. We quickly forget that God has a mission for us while on earth. There are amazing things for you to see, do and accomplish and God empowers you to do all of them. This devotional is meant to get your life out of a rut and onto God’s mission for your life. Every third day there will be a “mission” for you to apply to your life. We’re God’s people, on a mission, to reflect his goodness to the entire world. Let’s do this!
