Fear Not! Protection DevotionsSample
The Lord Will Be Your Confidence
“Do not be afraid of sudden terror, nor of trouble from the wicked when it comes; for the Lord will be your confidence, and will keep your foot from being caught” (Proverbs 3:25-26).
You’ll notice that it doesn’t say you won’t be afraid if trouble comes, but when it comes. Jesus, in the parable of the sower, said, “When trouble or persecution comes…” (Matthew 13:21) Trouble will come and you do not have to go looking for it either.
Jesus also said, “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world" (John 16:33). We can face each day confidently because the Lord has overcome the world. Please note that has overcome is past tense.
We need to always remember who we are fighting against. Paul tells us, “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places” (Ephesians 6:12).
Paul goes on to tell us how we keep from getting abused by an unseen enemy: “Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand” (Ephesians 6:13). Each day you have to put on your spiritual armor and be ready to protect yourself and fight for your family.
Jesus did not leave us with a pea shooter to fight our giants; He left us with a spiritual atomic bomb in His word. His word is the sword of the Spirit and you can slay spiritual dragons with it. Remember when Jesus was tempted by Satan in the desert, on three separate occasions He did His fighting with the word of God. Each time He told Satan, “It is written” and then quoted the scripture. If Jesus, the Son of God, needed scripture to fend off the devil, wouldn’t it be a good idea for us to prepare in the same manner?
The good news is that we are not in this battle alone. “God is just: He will pay back trouble to those who trouble you and give relief to you who are troubled” (2 Thessalonians 1:6-7). Next time trouble comes your way, do not be afraid. Jesus has overcome the world!
Prayer: Thank You Lord that You have overcome the world. May I never forget the victory was won through Your resurrection. Help me to walk in the spiritual authority You gave us through that victory. I will not be afraid, for You are my confidence. In Jesus' name, amen.
