The Heart Attitudes: Part 7Sample
Heart Attitude #6 – Support the Work Financially
“Remember this: The person who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and the person who sows generously will also reap generously. Each person should do as he has decided in his heart – not reluctantly or out of necessity, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make every grace overflow to you, so that in every way, always having everything you need, you may excel in every good work.” 2 Corinthians 9:6-8
“The Lord of Hosts says this: 'Think carefully about your ways. Go up into the hills, bring down lumber, and build the house. Then I will be pleased with it and be glorified,” says the Lord. “You expected much, but then it amounted to little. When you brought the harvest to your house, I ruined it. Why?' This is the declaration of the Lord of Hosts. “Because My house still lies in ruins, while each of you is busy with his own house.” Haggai 1:7-9
If we are not careful, we too can become so focused on our own houses, our own financial security, that we neglect to make sure the work of the Lord is adequately funded. It takes a different mindset to support the work of the Lord financially than the rest of the world has.
Harold Bullock shares these thoughts on giving with the proper perspective. My financial gifts:
· Are given to God
· Must be a priority to me
· Determine what God returns to me
· Require a cheerful heart
· Reveal if I can be trusted with my finances
When we give to support the work financially, we release our grip upon our possessions. The more we give, the more we move from our possessions owning us to our using our possessions to honor the Lord. If you are not a giver when you have little resources, you most likely will not be a giver should you ever have a lot of resources. It is an attitude of the heart, not a matter of the amount you give.

About this Plan
This week we look at the sixth heart attitude: support the work financially. We will discover the way the Lord has established to support His work and our place in that plan. We will explore how to give our gifts to the Lord and how we can grow to become a cheerful giver to the Lord.
