100 Days in the New Testament: The Athlete’s Challenge

DAY 10 OF 15

The Best Coach

Ready

“All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16-17 NLT

Set

Every athlete knows how hard it is to come back to the sidelines after a bad play. We come expecting teaching, rebuking and some form of correction from our coach. If we have a good coach, it is done well. I think we all know how much a bad coach can affect us with yelling and sometimes worse things.

Thankfully, God is the best Coach. He uses His Word to teach and train us, but He is always a gentleman about it. He lovingly guides our lives with His gift of the Bible. Paul declares here that God Himself breathed the words that are found in it. The Bible is not a man-made book but a divine book cultivated by God’s heart.

God’s Word is one that can be trusted. Scholars and theologians call the Bible “inerrant,” which means “without error.” This means that while our understanding of Scripture may be fallible, the Bible itself is as true as God Himself is true.

This means that God’s Word has an authority that comes with it. It is authoritative in defining our values, belief systems and how we should live. The importance of reading and applying it to our daily lives is clear throughout Scripture, but especially here, in this verse, it is heavily emphasized. This reading plan is a great start!
