Eve & Mary

DAY 4 OF 4

What did Good Friday look like for Mary?

Before Jesus' resurrection, was Mary disappointed that God took away her son?

Did Mary somewhat understand what was going on at the cross, since she kept all the prophecies concerning Jesus in her heart (Luke 2:19)?

Did Mary have hope that her son would rise again?

You see, Jesus was an "unplanned" child for young Mary who yielded to God’s plan (Luke 1:38). Years later, Mary watched God take back the child He gave her. Mary watched people turn against her son. She most likely heard of Judas’s betrayal and Peter’s actions. It is difficult to imagine Mary’s pain.

Mary was more than likely a single mother by this time because Joseph was not mentioned during Jesus’s last days on earth. If he had been alive, Jesus would not have asked a disciple to take care of His mother (John 19:25-27). Mary would have had no husband to console her while she watched her son go through pain and torture. It was indeed a lonely experience.

The beauty of Mary’s story is that God comforted Mary. Jesus did not rot in the grave. He defeated death. Jesus crushed the head of the enemy! While Jesus could no longer be with Mary in the flesh, she knew He was alive.

Dear single mom, God knows your challenges and deepest desires. He is faithful to take care of you. God understands every phase of motherhood and He is with us through it all. God knows the pain of child loss and the desire to conceive a child. We can always talk to God about our challenges.

We serve a God who turns sorrow to joy, and He can turn everything the enemy designs to hurt us to work out for our good. God causes all things to work together for the good of those who love Him. (Romans 8:28). The enemy does not see the big picture (1 Corinthians 2:7-8). We have an advantage on God’s side! In moments of grief and disappointment, tell your soul to have hope in God (Psalm 42:11).

The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the reason we have hope here in this life and hope for eternity (John 16:16-22)

Jesus died so that we can be dead to sin.

Jesus resurrected so we can have eternal life.

Dear woman, God is mindful of you.
