You may have heard it said that Jesus came so that you could be free. I don’t know about you, but that sounds like good news to me. Jesus came so that you could have freedom. Now some of us may think this is a cliche, or maybe it is something that you have heard your entire life. That may be the case but I think it's important to get a holistic picture around this saying. Isaiah 61 prophecies of Jesus coming to proclaim freedom for the captives. In Hebrew the word used for freedom was the word Deror. This is important because the definition of freedom that this word gives us is a fast, rapid, and instant freedom. Think about that, an instant freedom. So many times we believe the life of the enemy that we are a slave to our problems. That we are a slave to our sin, to our situation, but the truth of the matter is Jesus came so that you could have freedom. Not tomorrow, not the day after, but today and now. Jesus came to set you free, and who the son sets free is free indeed. So live like free people.
Now Jesus came so that we could have freedom, but there is a responsibility on our part. Jesus came to set us free but it's our job to stay free. We have to continually walk out our freedom. We can’t expect to be free and yet live the same life that we lived before. In order for us to live free, we have to live a life fully surrendered to Him. Here are two practical ways to live out your freedom.
- Have accountability - Having someone to hold you accountable is necessary in walking out our freedom. We need someone to remind us and encourage us as we live out our freedom.
- Spend Time with Jesus - The second is spending time with Jesus. Jesus not only set you free, but he has the power to keep you free. Spending time with Jesus is crucial to living out the freedom that he called us too.
Our prayer is for you to receive the freedom that God desires to give you today.
Respond:
Take some time to be with Jesus. Ask him if there is anything in your life that you need to be free from. Secondly reach out to a trusted friend. Ask for them to keep you accountable to live the life that God has called you to live.
