6 Days Relishing God’s Glory

DAY 3 OF 6

God’s Glory and the Fall

God created the world as a theater of his glory, and in the theater he put an image of himself made to enjoy his glory. Moreover, this image of God was to exercise dominion over the world and bring it into subjection. Rather than covering the dry lands with the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea, however, the image-bearer was tempted, sinned, and consequently cast out of the garden of God’s presence.

Even this, however, did not take God by surprise. The omniscient Creator knew all that would come to pass in the world he created, and he went forward with the project. We can observe that the sin Adam chose to commit opened up previously impossible prospects. With Adam guilty, God now has an opportunity to display the wonder of his mercy, to demonstrate his power to overcome volitional evil, and to show his love by accomplishing salvation.

God set mercy and salvation in motion even as he spoke judgment on the sinners, thereby displaying the unique glory of his ability to save and show kindness, love, and mercy even as he keeps his word and upholds righteousness by doing justice.

Prayer: Glorious Father, forgive me of my many sins. Forgive me, when I fail to heed your glory. Forgive me, when I choose foolishness. Thank you for your Son who justifies me.

About this Plan

6 Days Relishing God’s Glory

We hold on to the promise that “the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.” (Hab 2:14). Yet we don’t have to wait for that future day to spend time pondering and relishing God’s glory. In this 6-day devotional, James Hamilton guides readers through Scripture and enables them to pause and treasure God’s glory.
