A Long Horizon
One of the most important lessons we can glean from the life of Noah is the horizon of our faith.
God asks us, like Noah, to move our reward horizon far off, including beyond our lifetime. He did not let Noah know exactly what it would look like after the waters receded. He did tell him that one of His promises was going to take one hundred and twenty years to unfold. That’s a long time to trust, even if we can see clearly the end or the purpose that God is guiding us to. We must trust in Him and His goodness will set us in the right place.
God asks us to trust Him for our entire life, and beyond. We ought to build our ark with an eye towards eternity. To please God, we must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek him (Hebrews 11:6) by reading his Word regularly and finding His will in it.
The rewards we seek will not be fully realized during our lifetime on Earth. Our faithfulness will see its true victory in Heaven. That requires a lot of faith on our part. It is challenging to live in this world according to promises that extend beyond this existence.
This is what fascinates the angels: That we may be able to extend our trust beyond the horizon of what we can see. That we might put our hope in something we cannot understand but that our heart knows that will come true. Like Noah, there were other people in Scripture who trusted in God’s Word and waited for years until His promises came true.
The horizons of our rewards are in direct proportion to their greatness. There is so much in store for those who are faithful to God. God wants us to believe that His rewards will be worth it.
God, please help us to keep our faith against any problem that may come into our lives. No matter how long Your promise delays, we know that You are faithful to fulfill all the promises You gave in Your Word. We want to be like Noah and others who actively obeyed You all the time. It did not matter whether they understood your complete plan—they were faithful and will be rewarded by You in Heaven. Help us have similar faith.
