SWHW Bible Reading Plan: May 2021

DAY 2 OF 21

Top Takeaway From Jessica Hottle:

Being in business for more than 11 years, I have learned a few things that go directly with our reading today:

  1. One day people will act like your friend. The next day they are ready to stone you. (Acts 14:19)
  2. People will observe you to see your faith in action. (Acts 14:9)
  3. What you say and how you say what you say can cause more division than unity and can lead others further away from Christ. (Acts 14:1-3)
  4. Be careful you do not let the opinions of people go to your head or your heart. (Acts 14:14)
  5. The strength of other people will help you when you feel weak. (Acts 14:20)

Our commitment is not to those on social media or the online space. People who do not know us in real life do not get to tell us how to respond or react. We have one person we will have to give an account to, and that is God Himself. (Romans 14:12)

Chapter 14 reminds us that we are not to be worshipped, people are fickle and want what feels good, and division is the enemy's goal.

Acts 14:22 says, "Strengthening the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to continue in the faith, and saying, ‘We must through many tribulations enter the kingdom of God.’"

Somer Phoebus says, "We should smell different." As believers, we should give off an aroma that makes people want to know what we are wearing.

I want to leave you with one question today: How do you smell different than the rest of the people around you? How do you look different from the rest of the world because of the Holy Spirit in you?

Father, help us to stay focused on You and not on ourselves or the attacks from this world. Show us how to serve and love others with Your love and not a manufactured, opinionated love. We love You, Amen!

About this Plan

SWHW Bible Reading Plan: May 2021

Using God's Word as the foundation for our conversation, every devotional is written by women in the trenches of faith, family and work; aiming to live for the glory of God and the good of others. There are enough devotions included for a typical 5-day work schedule. We recommend plugging into your local church for the remaining two days of each week.
