Week 3 - Day 6
Leadership Jesus Style | Read
It always gets ugly when people play politics, and it’s always disappointing when those in leadership are focused on privilege and power. We love hearing of an officer who leads his troops out of the trench to charge at the enemy - or a politician who genuinely listens to the average citizen. In an age of fake news and corporate politics, the idea of authentic and selfless leadership is more appealing than ever. Jesus models and teaches a culture of leadership that is deeply loving and sacrificial. His followers are called to build communities that reflect this vision of leadership.
Godly leadership is measured in humility, integrity, and a willingness to serve. Jesus wants his followers to be able to recognize when they are motivated by selfish ambition. He wants us to be committed to others, willing to be inconvenienced, and happy to make space in our lives for them. That’s what the Kingdom is all about: leadership that is prepared to pay the price to rescue others and to encourage others to discover what a life with God looks like. It's easy to trust those kinds of leaders.

Questions | Reflect & Respond
Who are the leaders that I respect the most? Why is that?
What is the most important quality that makes a leader trustworthy?
A Trustworthy God | Pray
It’s not hard to trust a God who is selfless and loving. That’s why the most destructive idea to our faith is doubt about God’s kindness and attention. It’s easy to wonder whether God is really interested in me and whether He really has my best interests at heart. But Jesus shows us what God is like - He walks towards Jerusalem, He doesn’t shy away from the suffering and rejection that is coming, because He is willing to pay the ultimate price so we can have a healthy relationship with our Heavenly Father.
Today if you’re wrestling with trusting God, reflect on the kind of leadership Jesus lived out. Talk to God about your doubts. Why not take some time to sit quietly and listen to what God has to tell you? Sometimes we don’t hear what God wants to speak to our hearts, because we don’t stop long enough to really listen. Stopping long enough can give God the opportunity to show you just how well He knows you, and how much He loves you.
