Is Jesus Your Best Friend?Sample

Abraham was a friend of God
Most friendships are relationships between people of equal “status”. This might even be the distinctive characteristic of a friendship, in contrast to the relationship between parent and child, teacher and student, or boss and employee, to name a few examples. But various Bible verses, both in the Old Testament and in the New Testament, speak about a very special friendship. God is calling certain humans his friends!
In Isaiah 41:8, the Lord addresses the Israelites as “the offspring of Abraham, my friend”. In 2 Chronicles 20:7, an Israelite king pleads with God for help against his enemies, reminding the Lord of his promises. “Did you not, our God, drive out the inhabitants of this land before your people Israel, and give it forever to the descendants of Abraham your friend?” And James 2:23 also recalls that Abraham was “called a friend of God”.
It is obvious that this friendship was not an equal relationship. When Abraham spoke to God, he addressed Him with reverence: “Behold, I have undertaken to speak to the Lord…” Nevertheless, the holy and almighty God initiated a close relationship with Abraham. Isn’t that amazing?!
