Heart of a Champion: An Athlete’s Identity in God

DAY 3 OF 7

Finding Significance

We are all searching for significance and purpose in life. Some of us try to find it in our career, our wealth, or status.

Often, like the woman in today’s short film, we desperately try to find inclusion in romantic pursuits.

The accolades of sports accomplishments give a tremendous sense of purpose. But like other attempts to find meaning, it’s a fleeting solution, leading to emptiness and forcing us to perpetually seek significance.

As followers of Christ, we know that nothing so temporal can fully satisfy our longing for worth. Only Jesus. Knowing Him helps us understand life’s meaning because He is the “Author of life” (John 17:3).

God is not only the Author, He is our Father. A child may feel empty if they do not know the warmth and love of a father. In the same way, our emptiness can only be cured when connected to our heavenly Father.

The significance of God calling us his son or daughter is our real substance and meaning. Anything else we’ve longed to be won’t matter when we realize our true identity.

We find satisfaction in life only through a dynamic and intimate relationship with our Creator. He wants to be the love of our lives.

When we find our purpose in Him, the Holy Spirit gives us abundant life. We can live with meaning because our Father created us for His purpose (not ours). His purpose is worth living and dying for.

About this Plan

Heart of a Champion: An Athlete’s Identity in God

Being a good athlete requires discipline and hard work. But the desire to be the best comes with hurdles. We often find ourselves placing our identity and self-worth in how well we perform. Yet only when we truly understand our identity as a child of God can we succeed. Using our short films and encouraging daily readings, Jesus Film Project® will help athletes develop the heart of a champion.
