Am I Trusting God?Sample
Exodus 4:2-5: Then the LORD said to him, “What is that in your hand?” “A staff,” he replied. [3] The LORD said, “Throw it on the ground.” Moses threw it on the ground and it became a snake, and he ran from it. [4] Then the LORD said to him, “Reach out your hand and take it by the tail.” So Moses reached out and took hold of the snake and it turned back into a staff in his hand. [5] “This,” said the LORD, “is so that they may believe that the LORD, the God of their fathers—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob—has appeared to you.”
How wonderfully God is working in Moses' life. He is willing to trust God and obey him against his instincts. To take the snake by its tail does not make sense. It leaves the snakehead free to recoil and strike him. In overcoming his trust issues, Moses is learning to obey God implicitly and to do as God says even when it does not seem right in the natural.
Is God saying to him, Moses, you take the tail and I’ll deal with the head? Perhaps when Moses carried his staff, the thin end (tail) was in his hand whilst the thick end (head) was on the ground. The head of the serpent was eating its food, the dust of the earth. And is God trying to tell him: Moses, you are the head and Egypt is the tail that I am giving to you in your hand. Either way, God is demonstrating to Moses that he is turning things around for Moses.
What is God asking you to do regarding your past failures? Is he wanting you to confront them, to hold them in your hand, to make them the tail and make you the head? When we encounter God afresh, hear his voice and obey him, things turn around. We can confront our trust issues and overcome them.
