Together In The Journey

DAY 4 OF 14

A Clear Call

“As the girls gathered for a group picture, I was frozen. While I could see all the movement in the room, I experienced only silence. My ears were deafened. During the silence, I felt and heard an urge loudly calling from my heart. God was speaking and calling to me. I knew one day I would adopt a little girl from India.

The noise and chaos reappeared, but I understood in that very moment the message I had received from God.” (Chapter 1)

I believe Scripture is very clear about the call to believers to look after all orphans, widows, and the oppressed. Verses are all over the Old and New Testaments displaying God’s grand love for these hurting people. I realize not every believer is called to adopt, but they are called to serve through prayer, finances, mission trips, or coming alongside of a family that is adopting. As believers, if we want to claim that we have a “Pure and undefiled religion (relationship) with God”…we are all called to support orphans and the oppressed.

If you feel called to go a step further, to take the adoption trek domestically or internationally, it is important to remember that call on your life. This call will come in many different forms; for me it was a clear moment, for others it might be something the Lord develops through a series of circumstances and time.

My family is privileged to serve in full-time ministry. As awesome as this is, and the fulfillment we receive in pointing others towards Christ and seeing young and old people make incredible decisions to heed God’s leading in their lives, it is still a tough job at times to follow through and complete the task.

Many people in ministry experience burnout and depression and quit altogether. However, there is one thing to cling to during those dark and difficult times and that’s their “call.” They can look back to the moment when God clearly spoke and called them to full-time service, and that will help them stay the course.

For me, it was very much the same for our adoption process. There were times I would second-guess our decision to adopt. Even before we started, my husband and I were not on the same page, but I would remember the moment that God called me. There were numerous times in our journey where things got tough, and having that moment to go back to would remind me that I had the call of the One who loved my child more than I did, and He promised His presence throughout the process. Cling to the Call!

What has God called you to do? Pray and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal where or who you can serve. Ask Him to show you your call today.
