Moorings – Anchor for the Soul

DAY 2 OF 7

One of These Days We are usually confronted with the realization of the brevity of life when a friend or loved one is found to be terminally ill or passes on unexpectedly. These situations jolt us back to the reality that death is inevitable and unpredictable. King David prayed: “Lord, remind me how brief my time on earth will be. Remind me that my days are numbered - how fleeting my life is. You have made my life no longer than the width of my hand. My entire lifetime is just a moment to you; each of us is but a breath. We are merely moving shadows, and all our busy rushing ends in nothing. We heap up wealth, not knowing who will spend it.” We live on borrowed time. The psalmist describes our time on earth as fleeting, and the difference between life and death is just a breath away! The brevity of our earthly life ought to motivate us to live purposefully for God. As we get caught up with life’s demands, we may end up neglecting what is truly important – God, key relationships, and meaningful activities we have always wanted to, but have never engaged in. We commonly use the phrase, “One of these days, I am going to…” , assuring ourselves that time is on our side. In reality, “one of these days” may not come around, and because we fail to follow through on our good intentions or due to unforeseen circumstances, we may never have another opportunity again. We all have our regrets and wish we could turn back the clock. We cannot redeem time that has passed, but we can certainly make the most of today and tomorrow. Moses prayed in Psalm 90:12 (NLT), “Teach us to realize the brevity of life, so that we may grow in wisdom.” Stop procrastinating and start acting on your "one of these days" to-do-list: • Catch up with an old friend over a meal • Go on a date with your spouse or child • Resolve a gnawing conflict with a family member or friend • Volunteer at a nursing home or orphanage • Join a Bible study or small group • Go on a mission trip • Share the gospel Life is short. Live purposefully. Live without regrets. Mooring: • What are some areas in your life where you need to be intentional? • What are you going to do with it and when will you be doing it?

About this Plan

Moorings – Anchor for the Soul

“Mooring” a nautical term, refers to an anchor to which a ship is secured to prevent it from being carried away by the waves. Mooring serves as a primer for our soul’s contemplation. As you ponder over these reflections, may God reveal His eternal truths and perspective to you so that Christ remains as the anchor in your life.
