“And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, ‘Abba! Father!’ So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God.”  ‭‭Galatians‬ ‭4:6-7‬ ‭

Paul is driving home the illustration of slave vs. son. Paul knows this is foundational work in every believer’s growth in Christ:  

1. God is your Father.  
2. You are His child.   
3. You are indwelled by the Spirit of God.   
4. You are free indeed. 

This might sound overly simple, but think back on any sin in your life-- could you trace it back to not walking in or fully believing one of those four things? 

I dare say you could.

God uses Paul to pen these words and remind the Galatians that the old way of earning the approval of God with sacrifices, festivals, and observances is done. 

Not only are we not having to keep these old laws to prevent the wrath of God, but even beyond that, we’ve been adopted as a child of God.

We are co-heirs with Christ.

And even more, we have been given the gift of the Holy Spirit of God inside of us to affirm we are sealed and held in the family of God.

Let’s write Paul’s words on our hearts and soak them into every part of our being. These simple but powerful truths shape what we believe about God and ourselves.

Father, thank You for sending Your Son to free me from bondage. To not only save me but to call me Your child. Thank You for giving me Your Spirit to testify that I am Yours. Let me live like I know and believe these things are true. Amen.
