Am I the Master’s Choice?

DAY 4 OF 7

Depend on the Dependable

We make choices aka decisions at different stages of life. The consequences could be positive or negative and could impact us for a shorter or a longer duration. When successful, people boast about their own abilities. When results excel expectations, they probably talk about a sixth sense, a gut feeling that enabled them to make choices that ultimately worked. Some attribute it to overall teamwork or to contributions from a few key members.

But, things that ‘appear right’ can still go wrong. There are examples of catastrophic failures, even at the hands of highly competent people. One who a) is aligned with the master’s vision, b) is fully equipped to plan and execute well, c) has perfectly understood the job requirement can still make wrong/inappropriate decisions that can lead to catastrophic ends.

God testified that Abraham was His friend (Is 41:8), for Abraham nurtured a close relationship with Him and the people around him could sense it − his servants, foreigners, and even foreign kings. The servant given the task of finding a bride for Isaac probably would have been instructed by Abraham in the faith and so became a worshipper of the same God. Abraham confidently told the servant that the Lord would send His angel before him to get a wife for his son from Haran. Hearing this, the servant swore on the name of the Lord! (Gen 24:6-9)The servant’s first action was to pray to God for success and guidance. The Lord guided the servant to the right woman and enabled him to fulfill the mission.

God, though omnipotent, works through people. He equips His people and guides them in His ways. Though competent, humans have their limitations. So, our dependence must be on the all-knowing God. We need to regularly study God’s Word and pray earnestly and seek His guidance to make the right decisions. Abraham and his servant knew God so well that they completely depended on Him for guidance and help.

Do you turn to God daily to make decisions in your personal, family, ministerial, and official matters?

Lord, help me not to lean on my abilities and understanding, but on You. Give me the heart to seek Your guidance in all aspects of my life.
