Lost in Wonder: Five Day Bible Plan With Steve MorrisSample
Day Two: God and Wonderful Places and Events
Reflect:
‘It only takes a brush with mortality for ourselves or someone we love to be profoundly grateful that we, or they, are still here. Life is precious. Every ordinary life is extraordinary when seen close up and that is truly wonderful.
‘If we can rediscover wonder, then perhaps the faith will be of such winning proportions that anyone would seem daft not to sign up. “Revival” is just another word for when those who had lost hope begin to feel wonder again and see life afresh in all its holiness, beauty and creativity. It is the kind of thing that transformed the fearing and lost community on the Day of Pentecost and birthed the Christian church. If church and Christian community was to become a place of wonder (as opposed simply to wonders), who could resist being part of it?’ (Steve Morris, Lost in Wonder [Milton Keynes: Authentic Media, 2021] p.17).
I often find myself transported into a kind of dream in certain places. I call these thin places, where the gap between heaven and earth seems shallow. Once in an ancient wood, I got the sense that God was all around me. It was very beautiful and I am not alone in these kinds of holy and godly experiences.
Prayer:
Father, we are thankful for holy places and holy events – places where we get a strong feeling that you are close . . . Refresh us dear Lord and open our eyes and ears to your beautiful nature.
