Freedom From Porn Begins HereSample
Day 7
Cut It Off
As we learned in yesterday's video, porn actually changes your brain to respond to abnormally high levels of dopamine. In addition to sex addiction being a sin to turn away from, it is also a chemical condition to be treated. This is why detox and cutting off access to the addictive substance is crucial.
One of the 7 essential steps for a successful detox is to pray as Jesus taught us: "lead us not into temptation."
- What are the tempting situations you need to pray to avoid?
- What steps do you need to take to avoid them?
Today’s Challenge:
- Read the passage below a couple of times.
- Answer the questions.
- Read the instructions to lock up your phone.
"If your right eye causes you to stumble, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. And if your right hand causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell." - Matthew 5:29-30
Reflection Questions:
- What two radical steps does Jesus suggest in order to protect yourself from sin?
- Jesus sometimes used hyperbole or overstatement to make a point. What do you think Jesus is really communicating by these statements?
- What do you think God wants you to do in terms of being radical to protect yourself sexually for the next 90 days?
According to surveys, more than 80% of Internet porn is viewed on a phone. This makes it essential to lock up your phone for an effective detox. Go to (thefreedomfight.org/resources/) to learn how to lock up your phone.
When Caleb applied Jesus' teaching to get radical about temptation, he locked up his devices and got accountability software. When he did, he saw a dramatic decrease in his temptation. He understood in a new way what Jesus meant when He said, "If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free" (John 8:31-32). Caleb experienced a new level of freedom by applying the truth. Regularly washing our minds with God’s truth helps us identify and replace the lies that keep us in bondage.
