Finding Deep and Lasting Joy in JesusSample
Thankfully enjoy the life that God has given you
“And I commend joy, for man has nothing better under the sun but to eat and drink and be joyful, for this will go with him in his toil through the days of his life that God has given him under the sun.” (Ecclesiastes 8:15)
If you are searching for real and lasting joy, you should first of all focus on your relationship with God. But a Christian’s joy is not purely spiritual, nor is it only focused on life after death. The Bible exhorts you to also enjoy the life that God gives you here and now.
The book of Ecclesiastes makes it clear that we can’t control our lives and that we can’t fully understand what is going on. We don’t know why God sometimes allows wicked people to prosper and good people to meet countless troubles. We don’t know whether we will get a long and healthy life, and whether everything will be alright for our children. But this should not prevent us from enjoying the blessings God gives us today. Jesus tells us not to be anxious about all kinds of earthly needs, because our heavenly Father knows that we need them all. We’d better trust him for tomorrow, and be joyful about all the good things He gives us now.
The Bible mentions tasty food and wine, beautiful garments and luxurious toiletries, and the companionship of the husband / wife whom you love, as things to enjoy.
