Christian LonelinessSample

Day 2: In a Relationship or Seeking One
One area we can experience deep levels of Christian loneliness is in relationships with a significant other. It can happen in a relationship or while searching for one.
If you’re in a relationship, but your partner doesn’t share your same beliefs in God it can create lots of problems. The effect of those problems can be feelings of loneliness because your partner won’t understand a part of your life that is so vital to who you are as a person.
King David experienced this with his wife Michal. Michal was a believer, but she did not have the same unashamed passion for God that David did. They got into a big argument because David was finally successful in bringing the Ark of the Covenant home and he celebrated like crazy. Michal saw him celebrating and didn’t like the fact that he wasn’t being very noble by dancing around so much. She didn’t think it represented David as the king well. David was not worried about being dignified. His heart was to bring glory and honor to God for all of His blessings. He couldn’t care less what he looked like as long as God was being praised.
Samson is another good example to look at. He was always looking for love in all the wrong places amongst non-believers. His parents even asked him why he was going outside of God’s people to look for a wife. God was using this about Samson to help free the Hebrews, but there are still many lessons for us to learn. Samson fell in love with a woman named Delilah. He was loyal to her, but she was loyal to the Philistines who paid her to betray him. The Philistines paid her to figure the secret to his great strength. Samson toyed with Delilah until he finally caved and told her. She sold him out and he was captured and blinded.
I think of how lonely it must have been for Samson. Blind and bound by chains with no one to comfort him. He was away from his friends and family, deep into enemy territory. They forced him to grind grain in prison and be entertainment for his enemies, until he prayed for the strength to take all of them out.
Pray for your spouses. If you are searching, ask God for wisdom to find someone who has a heart for Him like you.
About this Plan

Christianity is not supposed to be comfortable and convenient. If you stand for God, many times you may find yourself standing alone. One of the biggest challenges we face in a culture that is increasingly anti-Jesus, is loneliness. This plan will explore how to cope with loneliness by building a deeper relationship with God. By learning this we will never truly be alone.
