This Is ...
The baptism of Jesus was an important event as it signified the start of His earthly ministry. The account recorded in Matthew 3 concludes with a voice coming from heaven saying “This is my Son, whom I love; with him, I am well pleased.” What an incredible identification of who Jesus is.
Identity continues to be a key issue within today's society. I suggest one of the greatest questions people ask themselves at some point in their lives is ... "Who am I?".
I love the fact that the voice didn't just say this is Jesus the teacher or healer; Jesus the one who will perform miracles or die on a cross, all of which are true. Rather the voice spoke the greatest identification that we can receive and that is one of being a son or daughter of God.
The moment we understand who we are the paradigm of our life changes as do our priorities. Baptism gives us a clear identity; we are in Christ and therefore share in his connection to God. Consider as you continue to think about being baptized that your identity is in Christ and we live as he lived with all the benefit of connection to a God who loves us and is well pleased.
