Walking With Jesus (Self Control)Sample
Beyond the boundaries
“So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate.”
Genesis 3:6
Have you ever heard the saying, "The earth is abundant enough for all mankind, but not enough for one greedy man?" Indeed, greed is endless. Some people argue that greed is an attitude and not a trait. If we pay attention to our surroundings, we will notice that no one is born with the inherent nature of greed. It is the relationship that makes someone greedy.
Adam and Eve were created in the image and likeness of God. However, by associating with the evil serpent and responding to its inducements, Adam and Eve became greedy even though the Creator had been merciful to them. He gave the whole earth and the beautiful garden of Eden to them. Adam and Eve could eat fruits of any trees —except the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. However, Adam and Eve were greedy. They took something that was not theirs. They chose to follow their own will and reject the boundaries set by the Lord.
Isn't this what often happens in our lives as believers? A greedy attitude often makes us never seem to have enough. We continue to demand more, even though God has blessed us abundantly. None of us wants to be called greedy, so, let's examine our hearts now because that's where greed can nest.
Reflection:
1. Do you still have greed? In what area?
2. Is it appropriate to demand more, even though you have received abundant blessings from the Lord? Explain your reasons!
Application:
Greed holds you back – so learn to share and say enough!

About this Plan
When the Holy Spirit becomes the sole ruler in our lives, our Christian life must be in harmony with the values of the Kingdom of God. It takes a diligent effort to continue defeating the old human character that is contrary to God's word to live the values of the Kingdom. Through this devotional series, we will explore how to have self-control and align it with the character of Christ.
