Judges: 10-Day Devotional Reading PlanSample

Samson was the first man raised up by God to fight the Philistines. As the angel had told his mother, Samson “shall begin to save Israel from the hand of the Philistines” (Judges 13:5). After him would come others to continue the work, most notably the great King David. But the deliverance that came through Samson points to someone even greater than David—the King of kings, Jesus Christ, who would come and deliver God’s people from their enemies of sin and Satan.
Reflection:
The story of Samson actually reflects the story of the entire nation of Israel. They turned to the Lord when personal needs were felt keenly but tended to go their own way and serve themselves much of the time. In reality, this is also our story. Where are you tempted to live like Samson, thinking you’re in control of your life and turning to the Lord only when you feel out of control?
