New Purpose

Jesus loved us and died for us, and because of that, we can live with a purpose. Jesus changes everything, including what we live for. Most people live for the purpose of satisfying themselves and doing all they can to get the most money, fame, followers, etc. But when we’re focused only on ourselves, our ability to truly love others like we’re meant to is limited. 

Because of Jesus, we get to walk freely in His love and freely give it away to others as well. When your purpose is to make Jesus famous you don’t have to live under the pressure of constantly trying to make yourself popular. Instead, you can speak life and shine light! Your new purpose becomes speaking life into others, and shining the light of Christ in the dark world around you. 

So how do you do that? Well, most of the time when you’re following Christ, you’re going to live a lifestyle that looks very different from the rest of the world. The Apostle Paul actually gives us a few practical examples and commands on how to do this in Ephesians 5, but it can all be summed up pretty well in verses 15-17 where he says, “Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.” 

The point of following Jesus isn’t to be a good person. In fact, we can’t be “good” without him. Jesus didn’t go to the cross to make bad people good. He came to make dead people alive. All of us have been spiritually dead before. Maybe you’re spiritually dead now. But you don’t have to stay that way. You can walk in new life and live a new purpose with Christ.
