Through the Bible: PsalmsSample
Truly God Is Good
Arise, O God, defend Your cause; remember how the foolish scoff at You all the day! (Psalm 74:22 ESV)
We often question God’s goodness when plans don’t go our way. However, the truth is that God is always looking after us even though we may not see it. I once made a job offer to a person that I desperately needed, and to my relief he accepted. Shortly before he was going to start work, he gave an excuse for not joining. I was devastated and questioned God’s love, but soon after found out that this person had been dishonestly poached by a competitor. I then realized that God wanted to give me someone else with integrity, lest something worse should happen had I done it my way. God’s ways are always higher than our ways. During the times of doubt, we just need to hang onto this one truth: God is good.
Prayer
Father in heaven, I thank You that You are a good God who looks after us. I pray, Father, that You help us seek You every day so that we may stand blameless before others. Open our spiritual eyes to see that You are working for us. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.
About this Plan
The word psalm is derived from the Hebrew word tehillim, which means “praises," and the Greek word psallein, which means “to pluck.” Thus, Psalms is a collection of poetry sung with stringed instruments. The book records the poets' naked emotions––joy, sorrow, or anger––in the high and low seasons of their life. As John Calvin described it, reading Psalms is like looking into a mirror and seeing our own hearts.
